Dry Fork Station construction, Gillette, Wyoming
so as I said I’d try to explain. Warning! This could get long!
Anyways, it all goes back to this day. On this Gorgeous Sunday morning my partner Rowland had a seizure & died of a heart attack while his wife & 3 children tried to save him. Rowland operated the tall ‘luffing jib’ crane in the center. He was a great big man, a Northern Cheyenne, 7 years sober, & a zealous follower of Jesus. We often discussed how we couldn’t stand being in the trade anymore, how we missed having a real life. I was away from home & family, Rowland was living in a fifth wheel with his. Neither of us were happy with things & we both wanted to try something totally different.
Well, things don’t always happen as we would hope they would. Rowland’s gone & I still go out & build these fucking eyesores! Right now I’m at home trying to reconcile this shit that really does eat at me. I won’t answer the calls from the union hall for awhile but eventually I’ll have to take a job somewhere, & then I’ll be fucking miserable every Goddamn day till I get back home. How can someone like me even justify a love of making landscape photographs?
As for the tree thing.. well in my younger years I did my part devastating the woods of Northwest Montana. it’s been awhile back, it still eats me up.
